TORONTO MAYOR DAVID MILLER DECLARES OCTOBER 21ST THE UMOVE DAY OF NON-VIOLENCE
UMOVE (United Mothers Opposing Violence Everywhere) was formed by a group of mothers who have each lost a child to a senseless act of violence. Along with supporting members of the community, we are trying to bring peace to Toronto’s streets.
Violence in the form of gun violence, domestic violence, youth violence, child abuse, and racial violence has touched the lives of so many people in our city. We believe that all communities can come together to eliminate the fear and hatred that breeds violence, and put an end to the sorrow that inevitably comes with acts of brutality.
Throughout the City Of Toronto we urge all government agencies, organizations, schools, places of worship, and individuals to commemorate the UMOVE Day Of Non-Violence. This may include community service projects, a moment of noise, discussions on violence prevention, and other education and public awareness activities in order to establish a day of non violence in our homes, our communities and between nations.
A media conference will be held at The Mayor’s Office, Protocol Lounge, 2nd floor, City Hall at 11:00 AM to Noon on Wednesday October 21st.
Our “Stop The Violence” rally will follow on Sunday October 25th commencing with a walk at 1.30 pm at Yonge and Dundas Streets, going South on Yonge St, west on Queen St to Nathan Philips Square from 2.00 PM to 5:00 PM
